TEACHING PHILOSOPHY

Why I Do What I Do

Regardless of someone’s age or background, I believe everyone should/ can have the chance of learning to play the piano. I believe that learning the piano can be one of the best decisions you make. It helps you become a well-rounded person by teaching you things you won’t learn in everyday life. It is my job as the teacher to set expectations high. Higher than the students might believe is possible. Although it may seem like the only reason to learn piano is to become an amazing pianist, it is not always the point or the main goal. Along with learning how to play the correct notes at the same time, students will be able to share stories, and express feelings through making music. I encourage students to become independent learners. I will teach them how to evaluate, listen, and make changes to their playing. During lessons, I also set aside time to review theory/ear training exercises. I love to keep my lessons fun and exciting by incorporating music games, new repertoire, and/or studio projects. It is my goal to help my students find the beauty in them and in the world through piano
